UCOOK, the meal service that delivers portioned, ready-to-cook ingredients and recipes to your door countrywide, has unveiled a collaboration with one of Cape Town’s best poke bars. Hokey Poke takes its inspiration from the shores of Hawaii, boasting an extensive menu of delicious dishes incorporating raw fish and other fresh flavours and textures. Now, UCOOK x Hokey Poke is bringing DIY poke bowls to your kitchen.
Ready-to-cook meal service UCOOK has teamed up with Cape Town hotspot Hokey Poke
Speaking at the launch event in Cape Town, UCOOK founder David Torr said, ‘We’re always finding new ways to keep things fresh and exciting, which is why we’re teaming up with our favourite tastemakers from SA’s top restaurants – the first of which is Hokey Poke.’ The word ‘poke’ means to slice or to cut, and poke is a Hawaiian dish: traditionally, fishermen from the islands would cube and marinate some of their catch to eat as a snack after a long day at sea.
Easy poke bowls at home
UCOOK is offering three carefully researched, easy-to-make Hokey Poke recipes for orders placed before 10am on 14 February and delivered on 19 February. Each of the recipes was dreamed up exclusively for UCOOK by Hokey Poke owner and creator Max Botha: there’s the fresh-take-on-a-classic Tuna Queen Poke Bowl with edamame beans, spring onions, pickled ginger and sesame seeds, the Minh City Chicken Poke Bowl on rice noodles with pickled carrot and jalapeno, and a veritable vegetarian’s dream, the Telefunkin’ Tofu Vegan Bowl with quinoa, mint, cashew and lime.
‘It’s an exciting partnership,’ says Torr, ‘and we’re looking forward to seeing how people react to the preparation of the recipes, and the flavours we’ve included.’
Regular restaurant collaborations
Don’t despair if you missed out on these Hokey Poke recipes, because UCOOK will be unveiling new restaurant collaborations each month in 2018 – so keep an eye on their website, or sign up for regular deliveries (which can be paused or skipped at any time) to discover what’s next.
