Twine picnic blankets

In early 2008, friends Cara Rosa and Chloe Townsend – a name now synonymous with luxury leather label Missibaba – developed a concept that would refresh the face of the local fabric industry. Born of their love for all things natural and fresh, Twine’s primary aim is to fill the gap in the market for contemporary organic textiles. And they do so by creating a highly covetable collection of bespoke patterned cloths and associated homeware items. The core philosophy in their girls-only studio is to employ only sustainable materials and South African suppliers – a worthy commitment if there ever was one. These handmade picnic blankets with edging detail are a prime example of the quality that flows from their workspace in Stellenbosch. Made of natural cloth comprising 55 per cent hemp and 45 per cent organic cotton, they are as durable and wear resistant as they are stylish. The backing is produced from Hessian and is entirely waterproof to make for pleasant picnicking, even on damp grounds. And as a fun final feature, Twine thoughtfully included handcrafted leather straps and handles from Missibaba so that you can roll the blanket up, pack it away and carry it off when you’re done. Now, what could be a better complement to finger fare and cheerful chitchat under the autumn sun? The latest range of Twine picnic blankets, available in black, blue and duck egg grey, retail for R1 200 each.
