Teremok Boutique Hotel

Teremok Marine Boutique Hotel and Spa is one of those rare places which has a wonderful history but is thoroughly contemporary. Built in the late 1950s as the holiday home of a Russian traveller, Teremok was so named as the word means 'little hideaway' – and a hideaway it certainly is. Situated just a kilometre from the hustle and bustle of Umhlanga village’s shops, restaurants and popular beaches, Teremok is a haven of tranquillity nestled among ancient milkwood trees. A delight for an aficionado of South African design, there are pieces here by many of Durban’s most celebrated designers from iKhaya Jac dolls to the Shaw Sisters/Freshly Found folded book pendant light collaboration. The attention to detail and commitment to making guests feel at home is evident throughout and makes guests feel pampered yet at home. Each of the eight suites has been individually designed and translates the some of the house’s heritage through decor and art. We stayed in the Milkwood Suite and were enchanted by the contrast of its clean concrete lines and sumptuous four poster bed adorned with silk and organza. The view from the balcony through the leaves of giant trees is of sky and sea and perfect for an afternoon relaxing with a book. It is certainly worth dragging yourself away from your suite for the delicious breakfast served almost alfresco or for a truly indulgent treatment in the Teremok Spa. The spa is as well appointed as the hotel and its two treatment rooms, Aqua and Orchid, are complemented by the Koi relaxation area as well as a retail space which includes treatment products as well as clothing, jewellery and decor items selected by the discerning Davidson women who own and run Teremok. Teremok is a perfect combination of all the things that make a fabulous break: location, luxury and leisure. To book call 031-561-5848, email or visit Text: Candice Botha
