Rendez-vous 12 Exhibition

Cape Town's Iziko Gallery, in association with the Lyon Biennale, is currently hosting Rendez-vous 12, an exhibition showcasing the work of young artists from all around the world. This multimedia display will see the incorporation of diverse works, ranging from projects in sculpture, video and installation, to beautiful drawings, paintings and performances. Ten curators of international biennials and triennials submitted a number of names of  international artists, from which a final 20 were selected to participate in this exclusive show. Although Iziko has hosted previous exhibitions in conjunction with the French government, this is a first with regards to the scale of the contemporary international art on show. Some of the participating artists hail from the likes of the UK, USA, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, Japan, India, Russia and France, among other countries. The themes of the exhibition are as distinct as the works being exhibited, with different interests and concerns coming to light. From the contemplative to the more literal, the works each explore a topic of their own. Some of the mediums you can expect to see include photography, technology-based pieces, waste products and homemade objects. What we like about it is the focus on young artists from across the globe, and the chance that it gives everyone involved to observe what others are doing in their creative fields. There are also several exciting emerging artists involved which makes the project an absolute must-see. Rendez-vous is an international platform which was created in 2002 and is an ongoing initiative dedicated to young artists. Visit the Iziko South African National Gallery from this month until 14 October 2012 or follow them on Twitter @Iziko_Museums for regular updates. Text: Kim Grové
