Pop Cow Clocks

These days, time is a commodity – there is always too little of it, too much to do. So, if we’re going to live by the clock, we might as well do so in style. Designer Rene Veldsman has given us a lovely option in these pretty Pop Cow Clocks from her brand Smink. A wonderful wall piece, their signature images are routed onto Supawood which is then finished with high gloss paint. As they are available in a range of hues, from sprightly to subdued, they would work equally well as a bright, contemporary statement piece or subtle addition to a classic kitchen. When asked what moved her to make the unique items, Rene claims that her inspiration came from the Nguni cattle in the Karoo, a place that ignites her creativity. ‘There is something magical and mysterious about Ngunis,’ she says. ‘I first started photographing them, then painting them over and over. With their images burnt in my mind, I wanted to find a new way to bring them to life.’ Bring them to life she did. And now, thanks to her, we can all enjoy this little touch of Africa in our own homes. The Pop Cow Clocks retail for R995 and are available from Julian Décor in Joburg, 011-442-8038, julian.co.za. They can also be purchased directly from Smink. For more information contact Rene Veldsman at smink@mweb.co.za. Text: Dayle Kavonic
