Online shopping

In our continual quest to find the best stores the world wide web has to offer, we ask fashion designer, writer and trend forecaster Craig Jacobs to share his top spots for cyber spending. 1. JPSelects.com: Glee's Lea Michelle is a big fan of this American site (she often Tweets when she finds something she likes on it) and it's endorsed by a slew of Hollywood names, from Heidi Klum to Billy Zane and Dan Ackroyd. What I particularly like though, is that this store only stocks brands that are doing something good for the planet, whether it's having eco principles or donating a portion of their sales to charitable causes. (And, okay, I am a little biased: my label Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs became the first African label to join them last year, and this has led to a tremendous amount of interest internationally in what we do!) 2. 36boutiques.com: I love the ease of shopping on South Africa's premier online fashion retailer, not only because they feature the finest local talents, but also because they throw in free delivery (and that within 36 hours, nogal!). Oh, and they're going to be having a massive sale next week (starts on 25 January) so bargain hunters will find plenty of options there! 3. Yoox.com: This is actually the very first online store I ever bought something from, and that was way back in 2004. I picked up a beautiful paisley Dolce & Gabbana tie and a Roberto Cavalli wallet for a steal. However, they didn't deliver to South Africa back then, so I remember I had to send it a friend's address in London and they shipped it on to me. When it finally arrived I fell in love with the beautiful way the items were packaged. Yoox now delivers to over 100 countries worldwide (including South Africa) and they offer tremendous discounts, because they buy up overstock or unsold items from the world's leading luxury brands' previous seasons. 4. CapsuleCollections.co.za: With Fundudzi we have a loyal and growing private client base and often we will design a bespoke gown, and the client will search high and low for an equally unique shoe to match it. Without hesitation, this is the site I recommend – it was started a few years ago by my good friend Adhiambo Mula Lawers, and what makes it so special is that Adhiambo has a great eye for the season's statement pieces (Jennifer Su picked up a great pair of Alexander McQueen heels with a jeweled perspex heel, which always attracts attention on the red carpet!). And, like Yoox, Capsule Collections is a discount outlet so you don't end up paying an arm and a leg for something truly special. Craig Jacobs is creative director and founder of Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs, South Africa's first clothing with a conscience label.
