Missibaba pop-up shop

We never miss a chance to catch Missibaba when they set up their famous pop-up shops across the country. So we're particularly excited that this week they'll be giving Joburgers the opportunity to browse their beautiful leather accessories at the trendy 70 Juta St complex in Braamfontein. Missibaba will launch their A/W 2012 collection - Missibaba and the search for the golden scarab - at the pop-up shop. When asked about the intriguing title, the Missibabas told us that The Adventures of Tintin, a series of comic albums created by Belgian artist Georges Remi, formed the backdrop for the Missibaba A/W 2012 collection. 'Inspired by ancient artifacts, sealed tombs and woven papyrus, this season Missibaba takes on role of explorer and Egyptologist!' Missibaba's signature brightly coloured, luxury leather accessories are all handmade by a team of seven women in Cape Town. 'Most of our leather is sourced locally in Cape Town (A-grade leather from South Africa and Namibia) with special bits and pieces sourced in Argentina, India and England.' They have some of their leather locally printed up with their designs as well and they print their own fabrics for linings. 'We love experimenting with different surface detail techniques, for example hand painting on leather, hand-cut cutwork and hand-drawn stitching details and patterns.' We can't wait to see the Egypt-inspired collection, which promises to be an even more offbeat version of Missibaba's consistently unique and quirky style. The Missibaba pop-up store will take place on Friday 2 March from 10am-5pm and on Saturday 3 March from 10am-2pm at 70 Juta St, Braamfontein.
