Leopard's Leap Vineyards

Newly opened in Franschhoek, the Liam Tomlin Food Culinary Studio is set to be a foodie destination of note. Renowned international chef, cookbook author and restauranteur, Liam Tomlin, partnered with Hanneli and Hein Koegelenberg in their venture to establish a home for Leopard’s Leap wines, and has created a veritable feast, literally and figuratively, in this fantastic venue. Adjoining the Leopard’s Leap tasting room, is a top-notch demonstration kitchen where Liam gives hands-on classes on anything from the basics to courses themed around a specific cuisine. International guest chefs and acclaimed local chefs are also roped in from time to time to give demonstrations on their specialty, and a dining area allows attendees to enjoy these creations. The more intensive classes entail making use of the well-equipped facilities in the cooking school area. Liam’s Cape Town shop, Chef’s Warehouse, is well known for stocking top of the range kitchen gadgets, accessories and cookware, not to mention an amazing collection of hard-to-come-by foodie books. So in anticipation of visitors’ appetites being whet by the demos and classes, he has also opened a small retail area at the venue. Expect to find premium brands such as Le Creuset, Bodum, Riedel, Staub, Shun, Global, Eva Solo, not to mention the Chef’s Warehouse custom-made chopping boards on the shelves. Be prepared to use your credit card with abandon. Future plans include a picnic space in the gardens, and a large vegetable patch will produce fresh herbs and vegetables to be sold in the deli adjacent to the shop. Take an appetite with you, and visit the website to learn more about upcoming courses and guest chefs, liamtomlinfood.com. Text: Raphaella Frame Images: Supplied
