Text Deborah Louw Styling Kate Boswell Photographs Greg Cox When UK-based couple, Mark and Sandra Stephenson, visited South Africa on honeymoon 23 years ago, they weren’t expecting to buy a magnificent holiday home. But on seeing the 18 000m² cliff-side plot on Knysna’s Pezula Estate, they knew they couldn’t let this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity slip by. Without giving it a second thought, they decided to claim the spot, which lies on the Garden Route between Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay, as their ultimate escape. Despite its size, the house blends in with the surrounding natural fynbos and manages to maintain an understated look. Its panoramic views overlooking Noetzie beach, local stone and timber exterior, and double-volume sliding glass panels all enhance the natural palette of sea, sky and shrubbery.
