Jono Hall Q&A

Food blogger and all-round food lover Jono Hall is known for his musings on his blog All You Can Eat for Free, a record of his food findings that also includes some of his own fabulous, must-try recipes. We recently caught up with Jono via Twitter to hear his thoughts about the House and Leisure Food issue and food in general... (Hashtag: #HLFood) @houseleisureSA We're chatting to @dannyrocketer about #HLFood for a few minutes. Firstly, we're dying to know - what was your first impression of the cover? @dannyrocketer Hello! Well, anytime anyone's got some cleaver action on a front cover I'm there like the drinks are free. There is no kitchen situation so good that it can't be improved by the presence of a cleaver. Just ask some mice. @houseleisureSA Any recipes in #HLFood you're dying to try? @dannyrocketer Not a joke, I've just read about giant superprawns caught off the coast of NZ. It's made me *crave* Neil [Roake]'s prawns in beer (see page 59). @houseleisureSA Do you have any of your own special recipes you love making for friends and family? @dannyrocketer My 'special' recipes are for trying to impress (mostly failing) girls. Fail. Butternut gnocchi, sage, pancetta and porcini. Nothing like a steaming plate of fresh gnocchi as a romantic dinner for a girl who hates the texture of dumplings. @houseleisureSA That sounds delicious! :) And lastly, is there anything you’d like to see more of in the next #HLFood? @dannyrocketer Hmm, I guess the things that always catch my attention use interesting flavour combinations that are unexpected. I think our palates are expanding and it's nice to challenge that with ingredients that wouldn’t normally be associated. @houseleisureSA Thank you so much for the chat! We hope you enjoy #HLFood, and that you make the prawns in beer soon! @dannyrocketer I will, just as soon as I've found the right prawn-hunting hat. Which is really just a hat. A floppy one.
