Durban's I Heart Market turns three

Since its humble beginnings in 2009, the now-renowned Durban I heart Market has ballooned in popularity, becoming something of a city staple for locals and visitors alike. And it is not difficult to see why. In this monthly event, co-owners Saki Butler and Anna Savage bring together a colourful celebration of local talent, fresh foods and quirky decor and design. Plus, thanks to a stringent selection process that welcomes only handcrafted, homemade products, the market strongly endorses authenticity, originality and clever craftsmanship. Now, just months after moving to the grand Moses Mabhida Stadium, I Heart is celebrating three successful years of trade. And they’re doing it in style – with a cupcake and cocktail-infused party and the launch of two exciting new projects: a poster exhibition and an online store. The creative advertising posters, designed by Dominic Strauss, have become almost as popular as the event itself. To commemorate the third birthday of the market – and just for the enjoyment of the general public – the collection will be showcased throughout the month of February at Upstairs, 200 Florida Road, Durban. As for the online shop, it will effectively bring these fabulous posters as well as stallholders’ gorgeous goodies within cyber-reach of I Heart fans everywhere. Now that’s news we really ‘heart’…. Visit the I Heart online shop at iheartmarket.3z.co.za and, if you’re in Durban on 4 February, be sure to stop in at the first market of 2012 at People’s Park, South side of the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
