One quick glance at the work of UK-based Debbie Brown is enough to convince anyone that cake decorating is an absolute art. With her intricately crafted confections for every occasion, there is no dispute that this world-renowned novelty cake expert and author is at the top of her trade. Now, Events in Sugarcraft is bringing the leading lady to SA and giving local aspiring bakers the chance to learn her tricks first-hand. In a series of three separate workshops taking place over three days, Debbie will spoil eager students with the secrets of successful cake sculpting and modelling. As step-by-step instructions are provided with patience and personal consideration, each full-day class is perfectly suited to both the budding beginner and the seasoned professional. Whether cake making is a career or just a pleasurable pastime for parties, there is something to be gained here. What’s more, cake designs differ over the three days so you can try your hand at pretty, elegant creations or cute, fun constructions. The three workshops offered are as follows: Friday 30 March 2012: Butterfly Wedding Cake (a smaller two-tier version of that pictured) Saturday 31 March 2012: Dragon Castle Cake Monday 2 April 2012: Kittens Cake (two kittens on a cushion) Classes take place on each of the above days from 9am to 5pm at the Protea Hotel North Wharf in Cape Town.
