Craft Trattoria

Neil Roake’s Craft Trattoria has quickly become one of Durban’s hip, happening hot spots and it’s not hard to guess why. With fascinating decor by Egg Designs – you may have seen the giant pair of scarlet lips which surround a window - an authentic Italian menu and one of the best sea-views in Durban, there’s plenty to love. Craft is now adding something else to the list of fabulous things about it: half-price pizzas from 4pm-9pm on Sundays. Craft’s pizzas are made with homemade pizza dough which is rolled out in front of you in the restaurant and then baked in a traditional wood-fired pizza oven. The bases are thin and crisp – 'In the style of Naples' – and the mozzarella is the finest fior di latte. The choice of toppings is inspired by Neil’s culinary adventures around Italy, where he sampled the very best the country has to offer. Durbanites now have the difficulty of choosing from combinations such as artichokes, mushrooms, zucca and pancetta or chargrilled artichokes, white asparagus and black olives. The most popular pizza is the Capricciosa which boasts prosciutto, mushrooms and artichokes. We can’t think of many better ways to spend a Sunday evening than sitting out admiring the ocean on a balmy Durban evening drinking a traditional Italian beer and dining on one of Craft’s delicious pizzas. By the time you leave, you are sure to be in complete agreement with a statement on their menu: 'Food so good, you’ll wish you had more stomachs'. Craft Trattoria is at 35 Newport Avenue, Glenashley, 031-562-1951crafttrattoria.co.za Text and images: Candice Botha
