100% interesting

100% is something completely unique at Umhlanga’s Gateway shopping centre. Filled to the rafters with novelties that are truly novel, the little shop is developing a devoted following among trendsetters looking for something a bit different. 100% was started by a trio of friends who travel the world and decided to bring back things they ‘love 100%’ to share with their fellow Durbanites. The store's tagline is ‘Quirky Knickknacks, Collectables and Novelty Items scoured from around the world’ and the merchandise lives up to this promise. Cellphone covers in rainbow shades and fun designs sit next to gold bar doorstops and cute paperclips in the shape of light bulbs. Stationery lovers will drool over the camera-shaped notepads, patterned sticky-tape and plethora of sticky notelets. 100% also stocks Lou Harvey’s range of items such as bags, pencil cases, lunch bags and kiddie’s plastic cutlery in their distinctive patterns. We’ve also spotted Freshly Found bibliogami creations and a great selection of Asian kitsch. The store’s design and packaging deserves a special mention. The shop has an industrial feel which is off-set by the colourful items on sale. Purchases are presented to you in brown paper, black ink and silver and transparent packets, creating an effect which is simple yet effective in allowing the treasures inside to speak for themselves. 100% is shop 227 at Gateway Theatre of Shopping.
