Mount Nelson Hotel

Text Naomi Larkin Photographs Supplied WHERE: Orange St, Gardens, Cape Town, WHY WE LOVE IT: A Cape Town institution, The Nellie has undergone several revamps since it was first built in 1899 with the latest being the refurbishment of 30 rooms in the Oasis wing. The overall look and feel is classic, in keeping with this timeless icon, but the inclusion of pops of yellow, red and lime, along with artworks from the nearby Michaelis School of Fine Art, add a modern touch. Rooms overlook the hotel’s glorious gardens, Signal Hill and Table Bay. A member of the prestigious Orient-Express group, the hotel offers a variety of restaurant options including fine dining under executive chef Rudi Liebenburg. X-FACTOR: The Planet Bar remains one of SA’s most glamorous spots to enjoy a glass of champagne with friends or to impress business clients.
