Mauritius By Bike

Ask anyone who’s been to Mauritius and they’ll tell you that they’ve enjoyed all the beauty and splendour the island has to offer. But ask if they’ve ever experienced it on the back of a Harley and they’ll probably say no. That’s because it hasn’t really been available. Until now. Now, travellers to the romantic hotspot can explore and experience the island by motorcycle, thanks to The One & Only Le Saint Gèran, which has teamed up with Harley-Davidson Mauritius to offer hotel guests the exclusive opportunity to add a bit of a rowdy twist to their beach holiday. Harley-Davidson’s Paul Wren says the idea is to put Mauritius on the map as a great biking destination because the scenery is fantastic, the road quality is good and the biker scene is fresh and friendly. ‘Most of the riding is easy and although Mauritius is quite small, the riding is quite diverse. You’ll need to be fairly adventurous if you want to discover the hidden parts. Tourists new to the island will benefit more from guided tours but are also free to roam the landscape in their own time, at their own pace.’ Harley-Davidson currently have five bikes available for rentals and aim to increase the fleet in time for the December holidays. Rentals stars from R1 860 and go up to R2 650 (plus VAT) and the fee includes 24-hour rental, unlimited mileage, insurance and riding gear. Half day rentals are also available from 10am until 5pm. Prospective riders will need to be in possession of a current international driver’s licence for motorcycles over 50cc.
