A directory to Joburg's hot spots

Paul Samuels

In HL's June issue, we follow The Other Girls, a Joburg-based all-women collective, around Joburg for a glimpse into the places they choose to frequent. The group, comprising Nandi Dlepu, Vuyiswa Motshekwane, Thithi Nteta and Tumi Mohale, has identified the key components of good times (good food, good people, good music and a venue with street cred: say, an art gallery or a culinary school) and they gave it a name, The Wknd Social. By hosting pop-up brunches and day parties around Gauteng, they’re riding the wave of inner-city cool that has brought cultural hubs such as Braamfontein, Maboneng and Newtown to the surface again, and through this have become the city’s unofficial barometer of cool. If it’s endorsed by The Other Girls, it’s hot. Here we've rounded up the addresses and contact details of all the spots mentioned in the June article so you can frequent them too.
