Two Acres Tea Room

The Two Acres team has a very short, yet poignant mantra – 'To grow and cook beautifully simple things'. This tea room and restaurant in Assagay, just outside Durban, stays true to these words and their produce pledge, 'No hormones and No antibiotics (or as close as we can get)'. Family-run by Kathleen Hornby Walsh and her husband Richard, they grow and produce the majority of the items they plate. Their vegetable and herb garden supply 75 per cent of their fresh produce and allows them to be truly seasonal and nature-inspired. The casual lunch menu offers indulgence that relies on quality cooking. Signature dishes include herb fillet with marinated vegetables and basil pesto (R95) or garden beetroot with smoked salmon trout and horseradish cream (R75). You can also take home a piece of Two Acres via their shop. On sale are seriously fresh free range eggs, daily baked stone-ground artisan bread, home grown herbs, lettuces and a selection of vegetables. The garden setting offers peace and quiet with a menu to charm even the pickiest of palettes. To reserve a table contact 031-768-1957 or visit their Facebook page. The venue is ideal for parties or special events. Visit Two Acres at 1 Country Lane, Assagay, Durban.
