Home Fabrics and Fabric Library

Whether you choose to cover your couches with bold prints or adorn your walls with luxury wallpapers, Home Fabrics and Fabric Library is a brilliant local resource with a plethora of fabrics and surface coverings that appeal to myriad styles and tastes. A brand that's passionate about innovation and durable, quality textiles, Home Fabrics and Fabric Library stocks leading local and international brands, and currently boasts one of the largest textile collections in the world.

With colour, print and patterns in bedrooms as our main focus, we chatted to the sales and marketing director of Home Fabrics and Fabric Library, Marc Shotland, who talks inspiration and trends for this particular room.

What does your dream bedroom look like?

It's dark and moody with soft linens in whites and neutrals and honey-coloured grasscloth wallpaper. The windows are framed with dramatic curtains that complement the warm walls, and the room features an antique writing desk, armchairs with masculine stitching and polished metal details throughout. An accent wall with chunky jute grasscloth wallpaper in gunmetal finishes off the look.

What is the most beautiful bedroom you’ve ever seen?

The Premier Suite of the Armani Hotel Dubai. It's designed with slick furniture in champagne and grey velvets, which showcases the room's clean lines. High-gloss black cabinetry, ambient lighting, stucco walls adorned with modern art and thick viscose rugs combine to create a room that's the epitome of design and luxury.

Tell us more about the latest bedroom-focused fabric and wallpaper trends.

Your bedroom should be a blend of current trends and timeless pieces that reflect your personal style and suit the room's overall theme. Home Fabrics and Fabric Library offers classic wallpapers and fabrics as well as current collections, and the key is to focus on what you love instead of what's on trend. At the end of the day, it comes down to your taste, and our national showrooms are equipped with consultants to help you choose a scheme that will make you fall in love with your bedroom. Brands such as Designers Guild, Christian Lacroix and Clarke & Clarke can add that wow factor and can be toned down with local collections from the Home Fabrics and Fabric Library brands.

What are the hottest colours and patterns right now?

Serious prints are being given a playful spin with luminous colours, and we will see more of this palette in 2017. Luminous pink, yellow, orange and blue (think highlighters) are pushing the fabric and wallpaper boundaries, and we still see a lot of flora and fauna designs accentuated by the use of monkeys, butterflies, cows and camels.

How can readers incorporate these into their bedrooms?

The simplest way to stay up to date with the trends is to keep your bedroom neutral and accent it with pops of colour and pattern. Scatter cushions, bed linen and limited use of wallpaper are easy ways to upgrade your space.

How should you mix and match colour and pattern to create a cool, calm setting?

Use a three-tone colour palette as your base, and then go wild with pattern and texture. The colour will pull the scheme together no matter what accents are used, and the result is a diverse interior with snippets of interest that can easily be replaced when needed.
