Renovate Through Play

Micky Hoyle STYLING Mia Vincent

You don't have to rip out every existing feature and start with a blank canvas; the old can be salvaged, saving time and money, if simply repainted or refinished. Here a Pretoria couple re-imagined their seaside holiday home in Stilbaai in part by simply playing with paint and wallpaper. Picking out details with colour or pattern has set a bold, contemporary tone. In the bunk-bed room a single beam was painted bright yellow to enhance the fun atmosphere (see below); in the dining room geometric-patterned wallpaper frames the opening leading into the lounge (see main featured image). The result is a striking transformation without major structural changes.
