Room Reno: Room #4 Courtyard

The innovative update of a compact outdoor space added old-school charm to an Oranjezicht home in Cape Town.

The front section of the house looked like a prison when I bought it,’ says Storm Wiggett, owner of packaging and graphic design studio Creating a Storm, of her new home in Oranjezicht, Cape Town. Although the garden was the last item on Storm’s renovation list, its update has transformed the entire property by adding instant appeal to the outside area – and created a much more welcoming atmosphere to boot. ‘I wanted to create a tranquil, fairy tale-like space that could be viewed from my lounge and kitchen, or used for sipping wine outside on a lovely summer evening,’ says Storm. Patterned tiles replaced concrete floors, and stone pots, grey wicker baskets and a custom-made window basket add extra points of interest in which more greenery flourishes.
