TheLAB Franschhoek

 

theLAB is pioneering a movement towards ecoconcious travel, incorporating innovative technology, to create a unique staycation experience for South Africans. 

With three accomodation locations in the Western Cape, theLAB offers guests an unparelled green escape with an ethos that is rooted in ensuring the survival of the planet. The various accomodation offerings can be found in Robertson, Cape Town and Franschhoek, with each property boasting a range of ammenities and services from spa treatements to wine tasting.

theLAB Robertson

 

theLAB in Roberston is housed in a Cape Dutch guest house, while theLAB Cape Town Tarragona can be found nestled closely to the Constantia Winelands. Finally, theLAB Franschhoek is situated at the epicentre of wine country and is an escape from the hustle and bustle of city living.

Each property is perfectly located within close proximity to fine living essentials such as award winning restaurants and wine farms. 

Apart from each property working towards reducing it's carbon footprint, theLAB is also incorporating a technical first for South Africa - an automation system prompted by voice commands called Echo. 

It is just as futuristic as it sounds, with a few words guests can have their blinds lifted, the shower turned on and even a cup of steaming fresh coffee made for them.

 

Interior style and technology 

All three theLAB locations offer a timless and modern style with a minimalist interior featuring clean lines and crisp colours such as white, blue or more earthy hues such as brown or yellow.

Each bedroom is ensuite and equipped with a television, mini bar, aircon and more. 

TheLAB Cape Town

The voice-prompted Echo system is easily identifable as a white circular node and can be found on on the top of cupboards or near the ceiling. When prompting to swtich Echo on, one needs only recite, 'echo turn on'  and the white button will radiate a blue colour, signalling that Echo is ready to get to work.

At theLAB in Franschhoek, each of the suites' front doors has been programmed with a unique code that guests are able to allocate, ensuring peace of mind and first-class secuirty. 

Each of theLAB properties offers conferencing rooms allowing for business travellers. Another unique feature is the in-house movie cinema at theLAB in Franschhoek, which provides a cinematic experience with surround sound and technologically advanced visuals.

Each property is equipped with a pool and jacuzzi, allowing guests to soak in the tub or take a dip in the cool waters.

TheLAB spa is on offer to guests at each of the properties and offers various treatements, a pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. In line with the green focus, all the products used at the spa are by TheraVine, an ecofriendly spa treatement brand along ith Owls Rest products, a locally produced range.

'Green' implementations 

Owner of theLAB, Jos Balk is passionate about the environment and explains that the brand is working towards implementing and pioneering sustainable travel in South Africa through carbon neutral initiatives. 

'There is no plan B. TheLAB is working towards having a zero footprint impact on mother nature,' he said. 

As a fully focused green accomodation brand, theLAB has left no stone unturned as it aims to reduce the impact of their guests on the planet by the use of renewable energy systems and making a concious effort to eliminate plastic use on-site. This includes providing sparkling or still water on tap along with reusable glass bottles. 

Solar panels have been implemented at all three properties owned under theLAB brand and is used to heat water and provide electrcity. All three theLAB properties are equipped with a recycling system to ensure that there is minimal wastage.

Guests will be treated to homemade meals for breakfast, dinner and lunch upon request. The produce used in these scrumptious meals is sourced from the onsite organic vegetable garden.

theLAB provides electric scooters and bikes which are available to hire and allow guests to visit nearby sites while also being carbon neutral.
