#HLDiscovery: Date Night Is Sorted With These 4 Eateries
This is what is on our radar this week.
Whether you're on the hunt for a swish eatery for date night or a laid-back lunch venue with friends, we have a selection of ideal venues for you to choose from. Here are four restaurants on this week's #HLDiscovery list that may just tickle your fancy.
Nestled in a nook at the historic Alphen Boutique Hotel in the heart of leafy Constantia, Kove Collection’s Blanko restaurant is an ideal destination for casual after-work drinks or intimate dinner dates. Tastes are well catered for with a sizeable Italian-centred menu that has been made modern: think decadent arancini, authentic carbonara with guanciale and pecorino, tomato and basil ravioli and tiramisu for dessert.
Pescatarians will enjoy the selection of grilled fish, while the more carnivorous can look forward to delights such as veal escalopes, lamb shank and balsamic fillet tagliata. The extensive wine collection there’s a local varietal for every palate, or you could take a walk on the wild side with one of their signature cocktails.
Curated by Goodman Gallery, the restaurant’s walls are adorned with works by popular South African contemporary artists, including William Kentridge, David Goldblatt, Haroon Gunn-Salie, Diane Victor and Gerald Machona, which really help to cement the gallery feel of the space.
2. Belthazar Restaurant & Wine Bar
With its breathtaking views of the V&A Waterfront, award-wining meat and seafood dishes and reputation for being 'the biggest wine by the glass' bar, Belthazar Restaurant & Bar has always been the go-to. But now, after 12 enjoyable years, the eatery has been lovingly refurbished, putting it back on our radar.
Moving away from the former hyper-masculine steakhouse look and feel, the restaurant has taken on a minimalist Art Deco-inspired theme, allowing the venue to maintain an elegant, comfortable atmosphere while still remaining refreshingly up to date. You can enjoy the delicious food that you have come to know and love in a new space that enhances the experience remarkably.
3. Hussar Grill
By now we all know that Hussar Grill is the place to get a good steak, but it makes our list for another, very important reason: their expert wine and steak pairings. Rather than recommend reds across the board (which we know to be the best complement to red meat) Hussar have paired their wines with particular cuts of meat. They understand that each cut of meat comes from a different part of the animal and thus has a different flavour profile, and it is this exact consideration that keeps them on top of their game.
4. Forti Grill and Bar
What's dinner without a little entertainment? Forti Grill and Bar at Times Square Casino in Pretoria is hosting a series of burlesque shows guaranteed to delight diners. Occurring every first Monday of the month for the next six months, each month will boast a new repertoire, ensuring a new experience every time you see the show.
Along with performance, you can enjoy a delicious three-course burlesque-themed dinner with main course choices suited to every taste. Guests are encouraged to get into the spirit of things by dressing up for the occasion – the best-dressed couple will win a bottle of Bollinger Champagne, so there is a great incentive to step into that spiffy tux or extravagant evening gown!
The show is not suitable for children, so it offers the perfect opportunity for adults to enjoy a fun night out filled with great food and sensual burlesque performances.
