Yuppiechef.com launches its first physical store
Posted: 22 September 2017
Since its inception 11 years ago, yuppiechef.com has been a pioneer in online shopping in South Africa. Now, the digital retailer is expanding into an omni-channel approach as it gets set to launch its first physical shop in Cape Town on 1 October 2017. The brand-new store, designed by Cape Town-based interior design studio ARRCC, will be located at the Willowbridge shopping centre in Tyger Valley. According to yuppiechef.com co-founder and managing director Andrew Smith, 'The brand aims to integrate smart technologies to make the experience between yuppiechef.com and the physical store seamless.' As the first of five physical outlets planned to be built over the next five years, the Willowbridge shop comes in response to a changing global trend in the retail industry as consumers seek to engage with brands in more dynamic, all-encompassing ways. Bringing yuppiechef.com out of a strictly digital space and into the real world, natural timbers and smoky undertones come together to create a shopping environment that's warm and inviting. 'The materials are raw in nature and create a perfect balance between luxury and an industrial edge. It was designed to be approachable while allowing the products to stand out,' says ARRCC director Jon Case. The design also boasts a functional test kitchen as well as a 'genius bar' where consumers can connect with the online store and continue their shopping experience, select an address for delivery or update their yuppiechef.com profiles. Every element of the store has been considered to merge the digital with the physical and, while its very first brick and mortar outlet is an exciting development in the local retail landscape, the brand will still continue to offer online innovation to its customers. 'Curating the experience between our two channels was critically important in the planning process, and our intention is that we will pioneer this thinking in South African retail with the launch of the new outlets,' says Andrew.
