Weekends for this Cape winelands floral designer and ‘country junkie’ are all about making cheese and long table lunches
Getting to lie in is not on the cards for me. A weekend at Bellerose Cottage means getting up at 6.30am to feed the horses and take my three dogs, Osca, Otto and Odin, for a run.
Living in the winelands on a farm just 55 minutes from Cape Town means friends tend to stay over and hang out often.
All meals take place at the long table on the stoep – where I host lunches for parties of eight to 14 – with eggs from the hens and fruit and veg from the garden taking pride of place. I love sourcing everything from within a 10km radius.
Cheese is, of course, a staple since my goats produce some of the best milk in the country and Annie – my business partner in our cheesery, Bellecrème – is one of the finest cheese makers (we also offer cheese-making courses).
Winding down on a Sunday means saddling up one of my horses and heading up one of the mountain trails behind the house, and in autumn foraging in the forest for wild mushrooms.
I do get the urge to shake off some country dust every now and then, and I’m blessed to have several friends’ homes in the city where I can throw off my boots at any given time.
