As a sales and marketing manager for Afrocentric fashion brand KISUA and a blogger, mother, trend forecaster, entrepreneur and aspiring writer in between, Vuyiswa Mutshekwane, or Vie as she’s better known, has her sights set on fashion, fun and art. With fun in mind, she’s part of a collective called The Other Girls, which hosts Joburg’s popular monthly The WKND Social brunch parties.
Vie describes her style as simple comfort dressing with a splash of drama and believes that true style is effortless but considered. She rates local menswear designers Adriaan Kuiters and Laduma Ngxokolo highly, and her favourite international designers include Stella McCartney and Martin Margiela.
Above: Some of her favourite things include her volumes of Unesco’s General History of Africa and she covets any of the pieces from Lakin Ogunbanwo’s last exhibition at Whatiftheworld gallery.
So what’s hot on her radar for 2015? ‘I’m not much of a trend person, however I do foresee the sporty-minimalist trend continuing.’ And in local fashion? ‘I really enjoyed Chu Suwannapha’s collection that was shown at SA Menswear Week this year. I think he’s going to add an exciting dimension to the local fashion landscape.’
