New to Hertex Fabrics is their collection of vintage rugs, from the supplier of their Mezze rugs. The new offerings have been machine-woven to produce a slightly aged effect, leaving the rugs looking purposefully tarnished. This antique-inspired approach to decor has been noted across the board, as we highlighted in our March 2013 issue Modern Vintage shoot for our Trends section. Available in neutral hues to complement most colour palettes, the viscose yarn used in the carpets also gives off a lovely sheen, furthermore giving the impression of a silk heirloom rug. Now a worldwide trend is the initiative whereby people are collecting old carpets, washing, bleaching and over-dyeing them, before cutting them up and creating beautiful patchwork-style rugs. This effect has now been emulated by the machine-woven variety, demonstrated by Hertex’s latest product. They are available at all Hertex Fabrics showrooms nationwide and retail at R3 900 (160 x 230 cm) and R5 300 (200 x 290 cm) respectively.
