Husband and wife team, Dieter Dill and Katrijn Engelen, have created a beautiful collection of jewellery that will be displayed at the Tinsel Gallery later this month.
They met in the late 70s in Stellenbosch. Deiter was the head of the jewellery department at Stellenbosch University and Katrijn was his student, and later his fellow-lecturer. They taught talented jewellers Liz Loubser and Marchand van Tonder.
Now, based in Germany, the couple have shown their spectacular pieces in many exhibitions, and have many other important pieces in several collections around the world. Each have a strong and individual style that shines through their work. As a German-trained master goldsmith, Deiter’s works are architectural, and he uses small human figures. Katrijn’s work is more feminine, using seed pods and flowers.
The pair have not exhibited in South Africa for quite some time, making their upcoming show, Two of a Kind, one to look forward to for local collectors and jewellery lovers. It will consist of a number of creative and intricate pieces that really show off their incredible talent and skill.
WHEN: 28 March – 17 April. Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, Saturdays by appointment.
WHERE: Tinsel Gallery, Johannesburg.
