The impact of the geometric trend is being felt the world over. How South African designers and creatives are interpreting it is even more fascinating. One such local is Carla da Cruz of Token Ceramics. As a part-time lecturer at Durban’s University of Technology, she needs to have her finger firmly on the pulse of trends and design influences. Her beautiful bowls, a local rendition of this angular, globe-sweeping trend, are created in white stoneware and finished in an array of bold colours. Their beauty lies in their simplicity and there is a distinctive, unique edge to each bowl. The polygonal shapes, white clay, clever use of masking tape and underglaze during the creation process, result in the crisp lines. These colourful ceramics are new to Carla’s range and are available from her I Heart Market stand for R100 each. Visit her blog at tokenceramics.blogspot.com to get in touch or place an order.
