Three of Durban’s Best Lamb Curries

Durban is famous for its fabulous curries. Over the 150 years of Natal Indian history, the unique flavours of Indian cooking have been developed into many glorious dishes and from chicken and prawns to fish and vegetables, you can find anything curried in KZN. By far the most popular curry, though, is a lamb curry and HL tracked down some of the best. Coastlands on the Ridge 315 Restaurant Executive Chef Wynand Schoeman says that lamb curry is a speciality at 315 and consistently the menu’s best seller. It’s not hard to determine why: succulent and tasty, the curry is served with a selection of chutney and sambals as well as rice and a golden poppadom. The restaurant’s lamb curry is deboned but you can also sample the Terrace’s lamb curry which just falls off the bone. Even though the buffet boasts 12 different curries, including chicken and prawn, Singaporean fish curry and Vindaloo, the lamb curry is one of the most popular according to Executive Chef Kevin Joseph. The lamb curry is the traditional Natal variety which is just the right spiciness and quite delicious. The R195 price tag allows you to eat as much as you please of the curries, 18 condiments and accompaniments such as poppadoms, rice, rotis and naan bread. The lamb curry is also available on the a la carte menus in the Ocean Terrace and Grill Room restaurants.
