This under-the-radar, Jozi-based art director has her eye (and lens) fixed on the country’s talented youth
An art director at creative agency Joe Public and one of Joburg’s most prominent youth culture photographers, Thina Zibi’s likely to be spotted behind the lens, in a den of cool, snapping the city’s movers, shakers and creative influencers.
Although her 12-year-old self envisaged a career as a fashion designer – and it’s not hard to see why – her photographic subjects all exude their own self-made style and wear it with confidence.
Above: Thina’s keen on Woodlady’s cube shelves and Okha’s Artists armchair; her granny’s reading glasses are displayed at home; the Loft chest of drawers from @home caught her eye.
Thina’s personal preference is for the more minimalistic and simple when it comes to design but she confesses to having a weakness for vintage items, too, listing antique stores as her go-to furniture source and her granny’s old reading glasses among her most precious possessions.
It’s the strong female figureheads such as London-based Alexis Barrell and Sindiso Khumalo who Thina looks up to, but she also admits to crushing on style personalities such as editor, writer and fashion muse Shala Monroque.
