For all you lovers of the good things in life, the team behind Joburg’s Warm & Glad cafe has just opened a secondary outlet downstairs called The Jungle. As seen in our March issue (on shelves now) it’s ground zero for all those things you covet but struggle to get your hands on locally. It’s filled with thoughtfully edited displays of body products, street wear, sunglasses, candles, crockery, furniture and accessories by design brands both local and international. And that sought-after collection of international books and magazines of theirs has also moved downstairs- think Cereal, Kinfolk, Frankie, Monocle and so many more.
‘We wanted a space that would become a meeting place for a like-minded community – always design driven, for people who enjoy good things, you can come and buy an indie magazine, or a table from Pedersen+Lennard,’ says man-behind-the-brand Jonathan Shaw.
As with a throng of new spaces opening up in Jozi it’s situated in an ex factory space directly downstairs from Warm & Glad on Jozi’s busy Jan Smuts Avenue and they’ve retained that gritty, industrial feel with exposed rafters, screed floors and large glass street facing windows that draw the light in. They’ve got a bakery doing light meals and freshly baked pastries as well as a florist who’s onsite every day making up beautiful bouquets. Even their doorman is a winner and the most cheerful man you’re likely to meet in the city.
Watch this space- they’re planning a kiddies club offering baking and herb growing classes too.
Head over, hang out, eat, drink and shop, trust us- you’ll love it.
You’ll find The Jungle on the ground floor at Albans Square, 357 Jan Smuts Ave, Craighall Park, Johannesburg, call them on 011-781-0455.
