Stylish Rockabilly Calendars

You don’t have to be into tatts, hot-rod cars, burly bikes and burlesque-style beauties to appreciate the 12 black-and-white prints that make up the 2014 calendar produced by Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells, which last November presented its first Rockabilly Festival in Cape Town. Currently on exhibition at Cabrito on Somerset Road, Green Point, Cape Town (downstairs from hipster Mexican eatery El Burro) until 26 January, the striking images captured by photographer Gavin Kleinschmidt are smokingly sexy, moody and deeply evocative of scenes from some imaginary noir movie. Think heavily tattooed blokes, a bevy of covetable custom cars to make you swoon, and gorgeously styled gals such as local burlesque stars Poppy Fields and Lady Magnolia from the Rouge Revue. Both calendars (R250) and prints (limited to five per photo, sizes A2, A3 and A4, from R850 - R1 250, unframed and excluding delivery) are available for purchase. Email Maria at for more information.
