Southern Guild Collection at MOAD

Southern Guild will showcase the largest collection of contemporary African designs at the opening of the new Museum of African Design (MOAD). The collection will include a variety of both established and new South African designers from different design disciplines. ‘In recognition of the importance of being the launch exhibition of the first museum dedicated solely to African design, we will be showing the most extensive Southern Guild Collection to date. Included will be dynamic new pieces from 100 of the country’s top designers and artists as well as iconic work from the Southern Guild collections of the last four years,’ says founder and director of Southern Guild, Trevyn McGowan. The new museum is housed in a renovated Art Deco industrial building in the Maboneng Precinct in Joburg and will open in October 2013 along with the exhibition. The exhibition will run from 24 October to 4 November 2013. The gallery will be open from 10am to 6pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Guided tours will be available by appointment.
