Smooth Sailing

Take a glass of Simonsvlei’s recently launched South Atlantic range of wines – particularly the deep-ruby red blend – add to it the stunning views of Clifton beach from the decks of the Nautilus yacht, and you’ve got yourself a winner. This was how I spent one very chilly yet beautiful evening in Cape Town – soaking up the last bit of sun that the city has to offer and hearing all about these tasty new wines. Guests were treated to delectable canapés and a few sips of the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc, 2009 Chardonnay, 2008 Shiraz and 2008 Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend while admiring the Atlantic Seaboard from afar. Of course the Nautilus does make the ride that much smoother with its plush interiors and exquisite finishings. I could quite easily call one of the cabins home and spend months at sea, despite my dislike for sea vessels. One thing’s for sure - this exceptional range of wooded red and fresh white wines adds even more of a boost to the winery’s already impressive collection. The evening ended on a perfect note with a selection of mini tartlets and delicious Toffee Chunk being served courtesy of Simonsvlei, against the dazzling backdrop of the V&A's neon lights reflecting off the harbour waters.
