Both art and scent have the power to evoke emotion or trigger memory. This common characteristic makes the collaboration between fine artist Nandipha Mntambo and perfumer Tammy Frazer a perfect match.
The project, which was four years in the making, led to both creatives experimenting with new mediums. Mntambo wanted the fragrance to take people back to her artworks, which incorporate cowhide – which is what initially put her on the map in the mid-2000s – as well as hay, clary sage and tuberose.
The result is a bespoke perfume that relates to Mnatambo’s evocative work and possesses the quality that one comes to expect from Frazer. In addition to the fragrance, Mnatambo released a multimedia portfolio at the Robert Sherwood Design store in Cape Town in May this year, which includes her latest lithographic work and a bottle of Dissonance by Frazer. This is a limited-edition offer – only 20 pieces are available to purchase.
