Royalty for a Day

A few weeks ago I was whisked off to the winelands, to the Delaire Graff Estate, in a luxury vehicle. I was wined on the fabulous selection of cultivars from the estate (I particularly enjoyed the rosé), dined on executive chef Christiaan Campbell’s delicious fare - the fish and chips with mushy peas was perfect, and my caramel dessert was one I will be thinking about for ages to come. It really was my ideal way to spend an afternoon. I was bathed in luxury and treated like VIP, then whisked back to Cape Town and to reality, to mull over what it must be like to have such attentive service at your beck and call. Luckily for some, this is actually a possibility. My hosts were the affable team from Visa, and the purpose of this ‘working lunch’ was to showcase one of the many options in the 2011 Premium Access programme - an array of privileges offered to Visa Infinite and Platinum cardholders. Having partnered with some leading specialists in various fields including travel, shopping, dining and lifestyle, if you book and pay with your Visa Infinite or Platinum credit card you can have access to certain liberties, such as best available rate, room upgrade and VIP guest status if staying at any of the accommodation in the Visa Luxury Hotel Collection. A complimentary bottle of wine, personal audience with the chef or patron of an establishment, and preferential booking will be made available to you at Visa Premium Dining restaurants. Private shopping expeditions can be arranged along with exclusive collection previews and limited-edition designer products in the Visa Premium Shopping Access programme; and those bitten by the travel bug may want to investigate the Visa Escapes or Visa Local Escapes packages for a selection of bespoke travel packages from a brief local adventure, to a visit to Coco Chanel’s apartment at the Ritz in Paris! So if you thought that you had to be a celebrity to garner such special attention, if you’re a Visa Infinite or Platinum cardholder this is a service worth investigating, because after all, who doesn’t want to live like a king or queen for a day… or longer! Visit or for more information.
