Katie Thompson founded the eclectic Cape Town-based design company Recreate, a rising star on the decor scene. Inspired by the everyday junk that people throw away, Katie transforms them into a novel and unique product – a creative addition to your home that oozes character and retro charm. Katie produces a collection of clocks made from hubcaps, scales, fire hydrants, pot lids and old wall clocks. She transforms these items into innovative standing or wall-piece clocks. Recreate specialises in a recycled range of furniture, lighting and interior accessories, and Katie mixes colour and texture to make each product an individual showpiece. HL were keen to ask Katie what inspired this distinctive design style. 'As with all our other Recreated products, the 'junk' instantly tells me what it wants to become', says Katie. 'I look at its shape and form and very quickly know what it’s going to be in its next life'. Katie sources her materials from garage clearances, markets and individual sales. To purchase one of her quirky clocks, view her website at recreate.za.net or visit her shop in the flesh at 368 Albert Road, Woodstock. Alternatively, call her on 076-989-0871 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The clocks range in price depending on style.
