Poetry Africa


The University of KZN’s Centre for Creative Arts will host the 17th annual Poetry Africa International Poetry Festival at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from 14 to 19 October 2013. The festival will feature poets from Africa, India, Ireland, Italy, Canada and the USA, with a special focus on South Africa and India. The programme will feature the highly anticipated world premiere of Insurrections, a unique collaboration between South African and Indian poets. You’ll also be able to listen to leading poets such as Neo Muyanga, Ari Sitas, Pitika Ntuli, Natalia Molebatsi, Malika Ndlovu, Sazi Dlamini and Jürgen Bräuninger. Another highlight includes the launches of Poetry Potion: Poetry is not a Luxury, Mphutalne wa Bofelo’s The River that Returns to me and Rough Music by Ari Sitas on 17, 18 and 19 October. The six-day programme also includes various presentations, music performances, seminars, workshops, open mic sessions and the Durban SlamJam, which will happen on the last day of the festival at the BAT Centre. Tickets cost R40 for the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre performances from 14 until 18 October. Closing night tickets at the BAT cost R50. Tickets available through Computicket and at the door.
