Plascon Meal of Colour

If you've ever been stuck choosing a new colour palette for your walls or for an item that needs a quick paint update, then this is for you. In a bid to simplify the process of picking out the right colour palette for your home, award-winning South African author and curator, Adam Levin, has collaborated with the Plascon SPACES Showroom to bring you 'A Meal of Colour'.  This vibrant exhibition, which is being accompanied by hands-on workshops, is intended to make people see colour more conceptually. 'It was about taking colour and making it more tangible and getting people involved at the same time – making them see colour in new ways', says Adam. The collaboration between Adam and Plascon will also see the incorporation of the 32 paint colours from the Plascon 2013 Colour Forecast used in a rich copper feature wall bearing 32 plates. 'The concept of meals', Adam tells us, 'is essentially a celebration of colour, playing with the idea of colour and presenting it in new and exciting ways.' He adds that through the revamping process he has given each chair its own personality and story and has created them so that 'each one stands on its own'. These chairs are being beautifully displayed around a large table, painted in Plascon metallic GOLD, and upcycled from pressed steel ceilings. The exhibition will also feature an eclectic range of furniture and other items sourced locally by Adam and developed for his shop IMAGINE NATION, at 44 Stanley Avenue, Milpark. Expect to see the African Cocktail Cabinet covered in an African map, traditional, but bright, Bamileike 'courreges' tables, chair covers in Shwe Shwe fabric and more. The upcoming workshop will focus on crockery and using what you've already got in your home and giving those items more value. In this way, upcycling will be the core theme, with Adam demonstrating how people can transform their own pieces themselves. With this being such a big current trend, especially in terms of being eco-friendly, we think this is certainly a worthwhile workshop to attend if you're in the Joburg area. As always, Adam has impressed us with his eye for design and unique colour combinations. From the clever arrangement of plates on the wall referencing meals, to the monogrammed cabinet that reminds us of Louis Vuitton branding, he has used interesting objet to make a statement.
