Open Design Cape Town
Cape Town’s historical City Hall will become the central hub for the inaugural Open Design Cape Town festival from 21 August 2013. And for 10 days thereafter, the Mother City will play host to some of the most exciting design events, from real-life dialogues and movie programmes to dynamic lunch time sessions and open studio cocktail parties, at various venues including design studios, galleries, design schools and convention facilities around the city. With the main theme focusing on the fact that ‘Design Is For Sharing’, the festival will act as a platform, encouraging the Mother City’s design community and the public to openly share their creative ideas and to start raising awareness and increasing the appreciation of all things design-related. Sune Stassen, City Hall and education programme manager for Open Design Cape Town and founder of Rock City Foundation says, ‘To be truly open about design means to include, share, educate and empower all who want to participate. Because we are working towards building a more sustainable future, the ability to successfully collaborate and share knowledge becomes some of the key building blocks towards realising this future.’ Participation is key to the success of Open Design Cape Town and the festival invites design practitioners, managers, media, educators, students, institutions and members of the public to tap into their creativity and find the best way to share their designs. And if you've always wanted to see how an architect works, take advantage of the Architecture Open Design Studio 2013 programme. Practices will open their offices on Tuesday 27 August and Thursday 29 August. For more information, visit opendesignct.com/event-category/open-studio.
