Keen decor and interior design enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear that the international design brand Kartell has opened its doors in Cape Town. Kartell was previously stocked by Twiice International which closed down late last year. So we’re happy that these sought-after products are again in reach with the opening of the new stand-alone store. If you need to complete your set of chairs, or would like to add some new finds to your collection, there are plenty of dazzling designs on display in the showroom. Kartell first launched its legendary furniture and interior design lines back in 1963. Innovation is central to the Kartell brand which is focused on combining constant reinvention, technology and quality. What we love most about Kartell products are their collaborations with top designers, and the vibrant colours, while remaining functional. Store owner Matteo Amatruda, who also currently owns A+I Unlimited Design, says that in light of Cape Town winning the ‘World Design Capital 2014’ title, ‘The city and people deserve to be surrounded by amazing and innovative design. Kartell is the perfect brand for the city: we call the concept behind the products “democratic luxury”: affordable products with unique shapes, quality and aesthetic appeal.’ We’ve selected some of our favourites. The Mr Impossible chairs are definite show-stoppers with their concave shape, while the Masters chair, designed by Philippe Starck, ‘pays homage to three contemporary design icons’ to create something truly unique. But it isn’t only the chairs that have ‘wowed’ us – their lighting and other home decor items are definitely worth a look.
