My Favourite Colour is a surface design company with a focus on interiors. It was started in 2011 by fine artist, Frances White, whose love of bright, jewel-like colours and strong patterns have translated into a vibrant collection of textiles and soft furnishings. Her range of cushion covers highlight this, and we love their striking patterns and local themes. ‘I’ve always loved pattern and colour – simple, bright, pure patterns made a vivid impression on me, even as a child,’ says Frances of her work. ‘Nature has always been a source of inspiration for me and for the first fabric range I felt compelled to create patterns using local flowers.’ ‘The first range of textiles is a collection of fresh and contemporary South African floral patterns, inspired by Scandanavian design and the South African floral kingdom. Each pattern draws its inspiration from the flowers of a specific floral region, and is made up of drawings and paintings which have been scanned and digitally collaged,’ she says. ‘I did a similar range using South African birds.’ ‘My Favourite Colour’s fabric range is digitally printed on 100% cotton. Digital printing on fabric is relatively new in South Africa, and I love it because I can print as many colours as I like (compared with screenprinting where colours are limited and printed one at a time). There are also no minimum runs, so it’s easy to test new designs and do once-off projects.’ A wide range of scatter cushions is available from her online shop at myfavouritecolour.someammo.com. The cushion covers are priced from R369 to R479. All products are designed, printed and made in South Africa. Contact Frances on info(at)myfavouritecolour(dot)co(dot)za or via 072-760-0615.
