Anyone based in Gauteng will know what a luxury it is to spend the weekend at Mount Grace Country House & Spa. Whether you’ve visited the hotel or not, you’re bound to have heard about the stately estate, with its sprawling lawns and elegant country feel, its excellent spa and its renowned restaurant, The Rambling Vine. Over the next few months, The Rambling Vine’s Executive Chef, Franc Lubbe, will be holding a series of dinners which showcase some of South Africa’s finest wines and winemakers, paired with his unique country-style cuisine. Each winemaker will host a dinner at the Rambling Vine on Saturday evening, relating anecdotes and providing insights into his winemaking and his wines. Or, if you prefer a more laidback lunch, you can join the winemaker the following day at the Mount Grace’s Twist Restaurant for their famous Sunday lunch. Tim De Raedt, Director of Strategy for Mount Grace, says the idea of the dinners emerged from Mount Grace’s past successes in the wining and dining sector. ‘We have previously won several awards for our fine dining restaurant, both for our fare and for our wine list. We wanted to bring these two items together in an interactive package, which is why we are running our Gourmet Calendar.’ Mount Grace recognised that their Gauteng-based guests don’t often have the opportunity to interact with winemakers and vineyard representatives, and so they are confident the concept will be a hit. ‘The menus will be paired specifically to the wines offered by the vineyard, providing a unique and interactive experience for our guests,’ says Tim. Mount Grace will be hosting events one weekend every month from May to November, with the hope of continuing the concept on an ongoing basis. The programme begins on 26 and 27 May when the resort plays host to the irrepressible von Arnim family from Haute Cabrière. Achim von Arnim was one of the pioneers of Methode Cap Classique in South Africa, and both he and winegrowing son, Takuan have a huge fund of stories, memories and anecdotes which they will share at the event.
