Metals

A major décor trend for 2013 is metal. Incorporating new metals and vintage pieces in your home add character, texture and reflective light for a modern feel. HL was excited to chat to Brenda Guthrie from Tin Table, a Joburg-based company that focuses on metal décor and furniture. With attention given to traditional industrial style, they keep newly made and vintage pieces that are sourced both locally and internationally. ‘Our broad range of furniture sells everything from factory shades to metal cabinets and vintage ships’ lights. The inspiration came from recognising a gap in the South African market because these materials and this style hadn’t really been explored. We’re able to introduce a unique product that can be appreciated by both consumers and interior decorators,’ she says. Brenda continues, ‘With metal’s rising popularity on the décor scene, I think it is largely due to the fact that consumers and interior decorators appreciate something different. People are shifting towards a more simplistic but beautiful and meaningful lifestyle and this fits that style.’ She shared with HL the best way to start integrating metal into your décor scheme, ‘The best way to decorate with metal is to make the metal piece a focus point in the room (especially if all the other furniture and décor are not predominately metal). This will make the piece stand out and create a sense of curiosity amongst the other furniture and décor pieces.' Tin Table was founded by Lulu Baily and Brian Green in 2011 when a trip overseas inspired them to open a shop that offers very unique products never seen in South Africa before. Tin Table has two shops in Johannesburg – one in 44 Stanley Milpark and the second in 03 Desmond Kramerville. Visit their website at tintable.net for a full product range or email them on tintable@telkomsa.net. They are available on 011-726-7878 (44 Stanley) and 011-262-5424 (Kramerville). Visit their stores or contact them online, as they deliver nationally. Text Lisa Wallace
