Magnum magic

There have been frequent "ooohs" and "aaahs" in the House and Leisure office lately, accompanied by the gentle sound of angel music... You might remember the Magnum promotion we ran in the October 2010 issue which featured Magnum's media challenge? As one of the competitors, House and Leisure was asked to create our own interpretation of the theme "As Good As Gold". We asked you, the readers, to vote for us and our glammed up shoot, and to our delight, we won! And the fabulous prize? A fridge packed to the brim with Magnum Gold?!, fully stocked for a whole year. How decadent is that? Not forgeting the soothing angel music that emerges every time you open the door...

How it came together...

Our November 2010 issue followed, with a lovely behind-the-scenes look at how the shoot was pieced together. The task of interpreting the Magnum Gold?! theme was given to our regular contributors, stylist Kate Boswell and photographer extraordinaire Mark Williams. Kate's work is always marked by her highly creative styling - here she handmade the model's elaborate neckpiece and various accessories out of rope - while Mark, a genius with lighting, created the moody effect that Kate envisioned for the shot. The scenario tells the story of a beautiful fairytale-like woman who wanders into a grimy metal forge where she finds a cache of crates filled with a wealth of gilded furniture and opulent decor pieces... but the ultimate treasure is Magnum Gold?! - decadent, jewel-like treats discovered inside a trunk. The location was Bronze Age Art in Simon's Town. A working forge, it made the ideal setting for this enchanted, mysterious scene. The concept portrays Magnum Gold?! as an irresistible, luxurious treasure.

“We are so pleased about winning the Magnum Good as Gold competition, because we felt that our interpretation of the theme was a great reflection of, not only the new Magnum Gold ice cream flavour, but very much of House and Leisure — truly glamorous and quite delicious!” - Naomi Larkin, Editor
