Living Endangered Luxury Items

The popular wine valley hotel, the Last Word Constantia, recently launched an exquisite range of handcrafted luxury items as part of their campaign to support some of the Western Cape's most endangered species. Some of these are Table Mountain’s Ghost Frog, the Geometric Tortoise and the Golden Protea, which are lesser-known but could face extinction in the near future if not preserved. Having a deep passion for nature conservation, the Last Word's owner, Peter Fleck, believes that raising awareness for these plants and animals will muster hope which could contribute to their survival. The luxe range comprises a stunning jewellery range crafted by designer Shelley Robertson, as well as other items like parfum, silk scarves and handbags. Shelley's jewellery collection features carefully-selected, traditional precious metals and stones that emphasise colour and texture. The launch event included artists and designers who all support South Africa's heritage through their work. It saw the likes of David Filer’s wildlife pencil sketches, Cobus van Rooyen’s hand-crafted leather bags, Tammy Fraser’s lovely perfumes, and fashion designers David Tlale and Desmond Maritz’s dresses coming together in support of the worthy campaign.
