We asked some of SA’s top design bloggers to tell us their choice for our prestigious House of the Year competition. We also wanted to know what they’d spend the R30 000 cash prize on. This is fashion and decor stylist, Kim Gray’s creative interpretation of what she’d do with the prize money… My vote for House & Leisure House Of The Year 2011 goes to Creative Recreation. I love the open, uncluttered space and the mix of old and new. If I won the R30 000, I’d head straight to these local stores to decorate to my heart’s content. Most of these items, I’ve had my heart set on for a while… 1. I love these retro arm chairs from Vamp. I’d re-upholster one in this Orla fabric in Lemon by Skinny laMinx (R425/m). Bear in mind you’d need around 5 meters of fabric which comes to +- R2125. 2. I love Moroccan interiors and design – I’d redo my guest bathroom floor in these locally, handmade tiles by Casa Tiles. They retail at R350/m² for 2 colours and R650/m² for 5 colours. I’d mix the patterns up – at 2 square meters I’m looking at around R1000. 3. Love this simple, black free-standing shelf from Dokter & Misses retailing at R480. 4. My front entrance drives me mad – I could get it stylishly in order with this Dokter & Misses Key Hook Organizer at R260. 5. My bedroom is all white – I’d so love this unit as a dresser by Dokter & Misses. Love its simplicity. It retails at R17 000 (made to order). 6. I’ve always wanted a Zulu Mama chair by Haldane Martin. I love the name as much as the design! They retail at R4591 each. 7. My husband’s nickname at school was Tin Tin – and we have all the dvds. I’d love one of these for our house from Deep Dark Africa at R485. 8. Love these simple Carafes from Deep Dark Africa at R95 each. 5 grouped together would make a fabulous display – especially with some simple flowers in them. 9. Like a ray of sunshine – I love this Protea Cluster Light from Indalo Project for R2371.20. Visit Kim’s website for more design inspiration or follow her on Twitter and Facebook. Remember to cast your vote for the 2011 House of the Year and you could win R30 000 courtesy of SA Home Loans to spend on whatever you wish!
