For charming scatter cushion designs with a nostalgic feel, look no further than Unwrapped, the creative brainchild of Cape Town designer and fine artist, Mandi Garbman. As a freelance designer a few months ago, Mandi had some free time on her hands and started doodling again, after years of hibernation. Her pen and pencil drawings on paper soon ignited another passion of hers: to translate those works of art onto textiles. Fast forward a few months down the line and Mandi now has her very own design label and is producing gorgeous goodies for the home! The drawings are scanned onto fabric, preserving the originality of the raw scribbles. The singular drawings are then patched together to tell a story. And the inspiration behind her work? Mandi finds fascination in early 1900s farm life, identifying it as quite dark and sombre. Incessant drawing soon followed and Unwrapped was the brilliant end product. All her textiles are carefully and painstakingly screen printed onto all natural fibres, cotton and a linen mix. Her products are priced as follows: – 50 x 50 cushions at 420 each (excluding inners) – Tote bags at R345 each – Gift cards at R20 each You can order via the online store on her website here or contact Mandi directly on 083-658-3122. Unwrapped is also stocked in Cape Town by Vamp (opposite the biscuit mill in Woodstock), The Fringe Arts on Kloof Street, and at Haas on Rose Street in the Bo-Kaap.
