Item of the day: Trinket brooches

We're always delighted when we come across new local design talent. Elske Nel is an emerging jewellery designer with fresh ideas and a quirky touch. Her Trinket collection of innovative brooches are too divine. Made from various materials, including steel, perspex and wood, each one has a witty name and novel design. Our favourite has to be the "Oh dear" brooch, followed closely by "Gifappeltjie" in second place. Although if we had it our way we'd get them all. They add a lighthearted mood to any outfit, be it on a hat, scarf, jacket or bag. Elske cites botanical drawings of plants and flowers as the inspiration for the range. And for a final cherry on top, each item is packaged with love in a handmade mushroom pouch. How sweet! They range from R150 (small) - R260 (big). You can find them at Mungo & Jemima, MeMeMe and Purr in Cape Town, at Cinnamon in Pretoria, and at Hermana Rush and Tinsel in Joburg. You can also follow Trinket Design on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook.
